Guest Post: Nidhi's Deconstructing

Hi, I’m Nidhi and I blog over at nidhizzle.com about crafts, food, and traveling. Bethany from SoOh came over last night with a bunch of her old clothes that she wanted to make something “avant garde”ish. She also brought a black sweater that she ended up loving too much to give away and took it back home and put it back in her closet.

A fabulous item in her closet that she decided to bring over was a pair of 90s wash jeans (ew) (how could these every been popular?) (do you think we will look on dark wash jeans and call them ew in the future?). We struggled to find a good use for them – the wash is pretty terrible.

She ended up leaving them at my place after cutting off the belt of the jeans, and I decided to create a necklace after being inspired by this neck accessory.

I cut the denim into strips and created rosettes by twisting them up in a circle then securing them with a needle and thread. I then sewed them up into an Olympic ring pattern. Denim frays like crazy after you cut it. I wonder if this will evolve into a very hairy denim necklace due to all the fraying...

In my jewelry box, I had an old choker from Claire’s from high school, probably. I hope chokers never come back in fashion. I decided to splice these two pieces.

I cut the ribbon in half to sew to the rosette pattern, and sewed the pendant of the choker to the rosettes.

I love this around my neck – it’s a little piece of wearable art. It’s got flowers and sparkles, what else could a girl need? Also, my hair looks very fetching in this picture.

Thanks for reading!
